Mission Statement
To create an open source command line tool to extract videos
and to bypass the need to use Adobe Flash in order to view
user-generated content available on video-sharing websites.
Notes
clive is a project licensed under
GPLv3.
The community has existed mainly through the project trackers only until
recently. The latest addition to the communication tools is the
clive-users mailing list which is described further below. More lists are likely to
be added later.
There are many ways to join the project, by writing code, by testing,
by proof-reading, etc.
Before you start writing a patch that adds support for a new host, please
look at the
FAQ question
gives you a general idea what kind of websites clive is designed for.
Developer Guidelines
- Get a copy of the latest development sources from
- % svn co svn://svn.gna.org/svn/clive/trunk
- Subscribe to the mailing lists
Governance
- The author is the benevolent dictator (BD) of the project. This
means that the BD has veto power over all changes. It would be better think
of the BD as a "community-approved arbitrator" or a "judge".
- The BD does not necessarily make all or most of the decisions. Instead,
the BD lets things work themselves out through discussion and experimentation
whenever possible.
- The BD participates in discussions, but as a regular developer, and if
possible, often defers to an area maintainer who has more expertise. Only
when it is clear that no consensus can be reached, and that most of the
group wants someone to guide the decision so that the development
can move on, the BD makes a decision.
