Presentation

Digital Scratch is a software for DJs. It detects motion on vinyl turntable and play audio file accordingly. With Digital Scratch you can mix audio files using regular turntables.

For the moment Digital Scratch is exclusively running on GNU/Linux. It is fully integrated with the audio server Jack Audio Connection Kit (JACK).

How does it work ?

The DJ needs to play a "timecoded" vinyl disc which can be analyzed by Digital Scratch to find speed, direction and position of the needle. For the moment it only works with Serato Scratch Live vinyl record. Turntables has to be plugged into a sound card: playback signal is analyzed by Digital Scratch and audio file playback is changed at the same time.

Requirements

  • a timecoded vinyl disc
  • 1 or 2 vinyl turntables
  • a GNU/Linux machine
  • a sound card driven by JACK providing 1 or 2 stereo inputs
