This part of the documentation deals with what can be done inside a movie collection to better organize it and find informations.
Ordering list
Movies are displayed in list according to a certain order. Default one is an alphabetical order for titles. But this may be reversed by user.
When movies are displayed in Text or Image mode, user has to click on the list header that has Movies as a label.
In Detailled mode, movies may be ordered according to any of the values associated to them (but picture) as long as it is displayed in the list. To use it, one just need to click on the column header. Clicking on it a second will reverse the order.
Search for movies
Inside toolbar or Filter menu, there is an item named Find. It will open a windows like this one:
It let user specify some searching criteria. Once it has been validated, only movies that match these criteria will be shown in list.
To show all the movies (as before search was performed), there is the View all button in toolbar or corresponding button in Filter menu.
If no movie was found, the list will be empty and instead of movies information, this will be displayed:
Quick filtering
Filter menu contains some simple and often used filtering features. They provide same behaviour as corresponding information into search window. But they are also here to make them quickly available. They can be combined together and also with search feature.
First of filtering items is used to display only movies that have not be seen or all of them. The second one can be used to select if borrowed or available movies should be displayed.
Next item let user select a genre. Only movies belonging to this genre are then displayed.
Audience age may also be specified. If a value is set there, only movies that can be viewed by someone having this age will be displayed. Movies that don't have this information won't be shown if such a filter is used.
Last option uses rating to filter movies. Selecting Movies that have a rating greater than... will open a window where a value can be entered. Only movies having a rating equals or greater to this value will be shown.
Genres management
As seen before, genres associated to movie may be used for searches. To be sure this information is useful, there is an internal feature into GCfilms: Automatic genre conversion.
It will be used every time movie information are fetched from a website. These ones don't have the same conventions to name the genres. As an example, one may use SF while another one uses Sci-Fi for the same movie.
User may define only one genre name that will be used to replace many ones. This is done using Genre conversion iterm in Settings menu. Such a window is displayed:
Each line corresponds to an automatic conversion. Within this example, first line should be understood as follows: "Should one movie have Anime, Cartoon or Animated as its genre, replace it with Animation". Texts are not case sensitive. And it is not necessary to add the main genre to the list (but it won't lead to errors).
On the right side of the window, there are buttons used to add or remove a conversion, remove all the conversions or change current one. A conversion may also be modified by clicking on the cell when line is selected.
There are two other buttons for opening a conversion list or save current one. By default use will be able to select one within a predefined list when trying to open one. It is not mandatory to save the conversion list. It will be automatically saved with other user preferences. This is only needed if the use wants to deal with many conversion lists.
Genre may also be converted manually. This is achieved using Edit Genres item in Settings menu. It opens a dialog box.
One of the used genres may be selected here. And choose another one to replace it. If the other genre already exists, it is as if movies are moved from one genre to another.
Grouping by series
Movies may be grouped (as series episodes or DVDs inside a box). This is done using Series field in movie information. It should be empty for a movie belonging to no group and have a value for the other ones. Movies that provides the same value for this field will be considered as parts of the same series. Rank value (also in movies information) is used to order items inside a group.
This grouping will only be visible if selected mode for movies list is Detailled. More information about it in the chapter concerning display configuration.
Movies are then grouped and the one with the lesser rank will be the series master (the one that may be used to show or hide other members).
All that can also be done using the mouse within the movies list. User have to click on an item and drag it to another place.
Items order can be changed using this process. This will change the Rank value. But this can also be used to attach a movie to a series by dropping it directly on its place next to the others or on the master (and it will be appended to the members list).
If a movie is dropped onto one that doesn't belong to any series, a new one will be created. The target movie will become the master and its title will be used as series name.
To detach a movie from a series, it should be moved anywhere inside the list outside of any series. Its place doesn't matter then, as it is the current ordering criteria that will order it.
