2005-07-21 : WallpaperZapper 0.1.1 is out

It's available for download at http://download.gna.org/wallpaperzapper/ as usual.

Full ChangeLog can be found in tarball, but here are the main changes :

gamin is no more used to monitor backgrounds file. GNOMEvfs is the new hype techno :-)
wallpapers popup menu has been modified : it now presents background together with a thumbnail
Wallpapers list is now sorted on wallpaper name. (sorting code has been shamefuly borrowed from Python official documentation
About dialog now inherits from gtk.AboutDialog, so it should be more gtk-like
added an adapter between Wallpapers and GConf to adapt one's interface to the other's
code cleanups as usual : typos, comments removing, modification of config parameters...

2005-07-11 : WallpaperZapper 0.1 is out

2005-07-10 : WallpaperZapper project initiated on Gna!

You can now start testing WallpaperZapper by getting the source from the Subversion repository.

About WallpaperZapper

What is WZ ?

WallpaperZapper is a random wallpaper selector for GNOME. It allows you to change periodically your background, randomly picking the new one from GNOME backgrounds lists.

Features

changes desktop background periodically
time between two changes is fully configurable
popup menu provides available wallpapers list. Choosing an item in the menu changes the current wallpaper
wallpaper list is taken from Gnome backgrounds list. Any change made to this list is detected and WZ adapts itself accordingly
already available in French and English
easy to translate using traditional tools like gettext and po files

Used libs, tools and languages

written in python
uses gtk/gnome throught pygtk
preferences saved and wallpapers configured using gconf
backgrounds file monitored using gamin (could change to gnomevfs shortly)At this very moment, gamin is no more a dependency for WallpaperZapper. But gnomevfs is.
i18n with gettext
autotools were used to bring it altogether. Thanks to Gustavo Carneiro for his answer on pygtk mailing list and for his python gnome hello world

Where are the holy screenshots ?

... huh ? no screenshots here ? What kind of project is this ?

Well, WallpaperZapper's interface consists of ... an icon (borrowed from gtk stock items) in gnome Notification Area. Making screenshots would be quite useless so I didn't ;-)
